Potty training 101, bedroom makeovers, and sad news.

I will start with the sad news. My Great Aunt Jay passed away. Aunt Jay was 93 years old so I can't say it was a shock, but I don't care how old they are, it still hurts. Aunt Jay was my Grandma Carrie's sister. In an earlier post, I described my Grandma Carrie, and those same words ring true for Aunt Jay. She was such a sweet sweet lady. Never a bad word said about anyone. Her and I would bond over our love for the Yankees. Every time she saw me, she'd remember how I loved them too and we'd talk about the team and games, etc. Another special thing about Aunt Jay was until she turned 90 years old, she sent every single member of her family a birthday card. Easy enough, except you have to know she was one of 9 children. Each of those 9 children went on to have 2-3 kids at least. Then those kids had kids and some of those kids had kids.....get the point? The family is now huge and we all remember Aunt Jay's birthday cards. God bless her. I know Aunt Jay will remain in my heart forever.

On to better topics, we've had some crazy remodeling going on in our home in preparation of Juliana's homecoming. It was New Years Eve when I got the phone call that I received I600 approval. Luckily, Anthony and Shannon were here (with AJ of course), and we all decided since they'd be here until Sunday to get a move on the kids' bedrooms. So while Anthony and Chris painted Carmela's new bedroom, Shannon and I shopped. We had to order Joey a big boy bed, buy bedding and decor for both Joey's big boy room and Carmela's new bedroom. We actually got everything done minus two curtains, 1 lampshade and 1 hamper LOL! Joey's bedroom set was delivered on Tuesday, and he is loving his new big boy bed. Carmela is settled into her new purple room, and even Juliana's room is almost complete! Phew....thanks to Shannon and Anthony for helping us get it all done quickly!

Lastly, two nights ago, Joey came up to me and told me his 'belly was full' which normally means he has to go to the bathroom. I asked him if he wanted to go on the potty, and to my surprise, he said yes. He peed on the potty! He's done that before, so I didn't think anything of it. He then went one more time that evening before bed. The next morning (yesterday), we had to take Carmela to therapy and I had my Moms Club meeting right after, so I put him in a diaper. He took a nap after we got home, then woke up and asked for underwear again. Unfortunately he pooped in his underwear (ew!), but again peed in the potty two more times. Now this morning, he's in underwear again, and peed in the potty just now! We are on our way I think...no turning back now. I potty trained Carmela in one weekend with just taking away diapers and I plan to do the same now with Joey!

On the adoption front, I still haven't received the approval in the mail. The man from immigration told me 7-10 business days so I continue to wait. I did hear from my agency who is still quoting me 4-5 months from referral, but my own research tells me more like 3-4 months. So we are cautiously optimistic that it will be sooner than April.
